We have added another service project to our December calendar of events. We were asked by our wonderful partner, Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers (LVCC) to host a Scholastic Book Fair at their South Mountain Center. 2025 Book Fair 1It will be held December 1-5 at that facility, located at 2002 S. Albert Street on the south side of Allentown. Scholastic will be shipping several large bookcases full of pre-school books for purchase by families of several LVCC centers. The sale will be open to the general public as well. LVCC is responsible for setting everything up and promoting the book fair. Our volunteer’s role will be to handle the cash register during sale hours.

The hours of the book fair will be:

Book Fair Dates and Times December 1st – 5th

December 1st: 2:00PM – 4:00PM Tom and Peg Harp

December 2nd: 12:00PM – 2:00PM

December 3rd: 4:00PM – 6:00PM

December 4th: 3:00PM – 5:00PM

December 5th: 9:00AM – 11:00AM

We need 2 volunteers each day. Volunteers should be at the center 15 minutes early and expect to stay 15 minutes after. The sale will be held in a large playroom at ground level with the entrance at the south side of the building. It will be handicapped-accessible.

Peg and I have volunteered for the December 1 date. At this time, we are calling for additional volunteers to cover all shifts. Look over the videos to become familiar with the check-out process.

Our club will earn a minimum of 30% of all sales in “Scholastic Dollars” that can be used to purchase books and many other classroom items from the Scholastic website catalog. So essentially this is also a club fundraiser! Instead of buying books out of our Youth and Community Services account, we can order them through Scholastic for reading events like “Read Across Pennsylvania” in March. A significant savings to our club. And it is fun too! The book fair setup is colorful and inviting. We expect many parents will be buying books as Christmas presents.

So, please consider volunteering for this amazing event. Just reply to Tom with the date you are available to help out.

Thanks!

Tom
