On July 22, Deirdre Govan, Terry Kennedy and Peg & Tom Harp met at the Hays Elementary School in Allentown to treat children in the LVCC “Pre-K Counts” summer program to an arts and crafts project. We expected a larger class, but still the five children in class that day thoroughly enjoyed creating their own hand puppets. Each child received two felt socks and chose whatever cutouts of eyes, teeth, hair and other shapes to glue on them. It took some experimentation to find the best way to adhere the cutouts to felt, and we were glad to have glue dots available. Afterwards, we treated the kids to a cup of Rita’s watermelon ice. The perfect way to end a visit on a 95 degree day! The children were able to take their puppets home to play with over the weekend. Thanks to those who volunteered for the fun service project.
