Annual LVCC Picnic

Our Annual Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers (LVCC) Picnic was held on May 26. It was another outstanding success!

This year, over 160 pre-school children from three LVCC centers enjoyed the event. It took three buses to transport the children from the Walnut Street, South Mountain and Early Learning Center sites. Most of the children proudly wore red “Pre-K Counts” shirts. It was definitely a “sea of red” out there!

After their arrival, Keith Reynolds, coordinator of the activities, worked with the center directors to divide the children into seven groups. They proceeded to seven activity stations, including the always-popular Moon Bounce, football-themed game, obstacle course, parachute game, and new this year, a hockey-themed game.
The sun was shining and with temps in the 80’s we made sure to have lots of “water stations” in the field.

The games were supervised by over 30 Key Club members from William Allen, Salisbury and Parkland High Schools. We also had some volunteers from Emmaus H.S. About half way through the fun and games, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms mascot MeLVin arrived to the delight of the children. He walked around the game areas, stopping to dance with the kids, and to watch one of the children score a goal at the hockey game.
After the games, the children were served a picnic lunch. Club members Rich Peterson and Todd Siegfried grilled up hundreds of hot dogs for the children and volunteers. The Key Club volunteers served the hot dogs, along with chips, apple slices, cookies and drinks. Also helping from our club were Verna Dally, Vic Mazziotti, Tom Harp and Mike Kukitz. After lunch, the children lined up to board the buses for their return to the centers. Each child was given a “goodie bag” on the way out. The children were incredibly well-behaved and grateful for this opportunity. We commend the staff of LVCC for their professionalism and diligence in watching over 160 very energetic children.

As always, we recognize and congratulate Keith and Jessica Reynolds for hosting another wonderful picnic!
