Mike Kukitz, Enos Martin, and Tom Harp met early in the morning of Saturday, May 2, 2015 at West Park to put a fresh coat of paint on the park’s iconic, 100 year old band shell. The weather was perfect for outdoor painting- cool and dry. With the help of an Allentown Parks Department worker and supervisor we started with the interior back wall of the band shell. We covered over a small amount of graffiti and worked hard to cover the many cracks old paint chips. Mike and Enos then painted the floor while Tom did the detail work. We finished up with the side doorways and the front of the stage. We were done in 2 ½ hours and the repainted areas were a BIG improvement. With the first West Park concerts scheduled for the following Mother’s Day weekend, our painting project was just in the nick of time.
